Atal Innovation Mission envisions cultivating one million young innovators in India by establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) in schools across the country. The primary goal of this initiative is to nurture curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds while instilling essential skills such as design thinking, computational reasoning, adaptive learning, and physical computing.
ATLs serve as dedicated spaces where young individuals can bring their ideas to life through hands-on, do-it-yourself activities and acquire valuable innovation skills. These laboratories provide students with the opportunity to work with tools and equipment to grasp STEM concepts, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Within ATLs, educational and learning kits and equipment related to science, electronics, robotics, open-source microcontroller boards, sensors, 3D printers, and computers are made available. Additionally, ATLs may include meeting rooms and video conferencing facilities.
To nurture inventiveness among students, ATLs can organize various activities, including regional and national competitions, exhibitions, workshops focused on problem-solving, product design, and fabrication, as well as lecture series, conducted periodically.
